We offer an in-depth dry eye examination which takes around 90 minutes. We start with a detailed history to understand the nature and extent of your problem with dry eye, blepharitis or ocular surface disease. We often find patients visiting our dry eye clinic have been to various other optometric and hospital clinics looking for help with no success. So we like to understand what has already been tried, what has worked and what has failed.

We then assess the tear film objectively using our Oculus K5. This allows for objective, non-invasive measures of tear volume and tear evaporation, assessment of the cornea, tear film dynamics, conjunctival and limbal redness, blink mechanism and most importantly meibography to image the meibomian glands to look for issues with blockage, shortening or atrophy.

We then test and document baseline tear film osmolarity and use InflammaDry to look for inflammation on the surface of the eye. Various stains are used to assess the eye using a video/photo slit lamp and we carefully document and abnormalities with the lids and lashes, assess meibomian glands with expression and documents and changes to the cornea, conjunctiva and limbus.

From this information we can make a diagnosis on the type, grade and severity of your dry eye and use the DEWS and DEWSII study as the starting point for our treatments.
